Some of our experiences through working with children:

 

• We have seen children as young as 18 months being given, and learning to use a Long White Cane.

• We have seen children who have never walked outdoors without being guided or having their hands held running on their own when given a long white cane.

• We have seen children navigating rough terrains, running across the playground, and travelling round school and busy public areas, and unknown places independently when given a long white cane.

Cane Success!

 

We have recently received a Cane from Common Sense from the National Federation for the Blind in USA for my daughter who is 12 years old. Until she handled the cane she was not interested in moving about with a cane at all and until last Easter she had really good peripheral vision to navigate around.

So the 'Cane' has given back to her, her independence and confidence to move around independently in outside spaces and she is keen to use at every opportunity...the cane is so light and tall and becomes and extension of her..senses...
