Blind Children Can!

We are a parent-led registered Charity (No: 1136981) looking to offer support and assistance to other parents and families with blind children.

We want to spread a positive message.  The NFB (National Federation of the Blind) state:

“The real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight. The real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of information which exist. If a blind person has proper training and opportunity, blindness is only a physical nuisance”

Being blind is something which changes interactions and experiences of the world, but which isn’t inferior or something negative!

We believe very strongly in following a ‘No-Limits’ approach to Mobility, as taught by World Access for the Blind, and run the UK’s only Children’s Cane Bank.  We are parents, loaning long white canes to other parent for their child if they need one.  We are advocates of the notion that a parent is best- placed to be a Child’s First Mobility Instructor (Joe Cutter), and we know that cane use is easy, empowering and should be promoted to every Visually Impaired Child!

They don’t need pity. Or lowered expectations. They deserve dignity, opportunities, and respect for their achievements.

We expect nothing less for all blind people.”

We are fully supportive of Braille being taught as a necessity for every blind child.
